Armenian MIA, WFP Discuss Disaster Risk Management

On October 17, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan received Leila Meliouhi, Director and Representative of the UN World Food Programme's Armenia office.
Minister Sargsyan congratulated Leila Meliouhi on her appointment and expressed hope that it would serve as an impetus for expanding cooperation to include new directions.
Highlighting the effective partnership formed with the Office in the field of disaster risk management, Arpine Sargsyan pointed out the joint work and upcoming plans.
The Minister presented the Disaster Risk Management Strategy for 2023-2030, the Action Plan for 2023-2026, and the established priorities.
Leila Meliouhi presented the five-year strategy of the UN World Food Programme, emphasizing the work being done to ensure food security and strengthen disaster resilience capacities.
Issues related to the vision for the transformation of the Rescue Service, the development of employees' capacities, and the functions of the MIA's State Reserves Agency were also discussed.
The need to raise the level of public preparedness through public awareness campaigns was emphasized. In this context, the importance of work carried out in schools within the educational component and the preparedness of young people was underlined.
