Armenia's first earth observation satellite, "Armsat-1," has entered the phase of de-orbiting from its controlled trajectory, which marks the end of this satellite program. This was reported by the Ministry of High-Tech Industry. The decision by the RA government to launch "Armsat-1" was an important step that helped Armenia enter the space age, demonstrating the strategic role of space technologies in today's world and Armenia's intention to be a part of tomorrow's space economy, the ministry emphasized.
"Over the course of three and a half years, numerous satellite images of the Armenian region have been obtained via the 'Armsat-1' satellite, making it possible to use them for both scientific and systemic purposes.
The next key achievement of the 'Armsat-1' satellite mission is that within this program, it has been possible to train specialists and develop the capabilities of a professional team, with whose help it will be possible to bring to life the design and implementation of subsequent programs, satellite control, and data acquisition and processing.
The experience gained and the data acquired during the 'Armsat-1' mission are already being used in the design work of new generation earth observation and communication satellites. In parallel, the technical and technological requirements for the new 'Armsat-2' satellite have been defined, and active cooperation is underway with recognized international organizations to realize the commitment for 'Armsat-2.'
Armenia is committed to becoming a consumer and experienced user of Earth-space technologies based on its successful satellite experience, striving in the future to also undertake the testing and integration of applicable technological solutions," the statement from the Ministry of High-Tech Industry noted.
