Armenian Ombudsman, OSCE PA Rep Discuss POWs, Displaced Persons

On November 24, Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan hosted a delegation led by Luís Grasa, Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Special Representative for the South Caucasus.

Welcoming the guests, Anahit Manasyan presented the main directions of her work and the challenges in the field of human rights protection in our country.

The interlocutors touched upon a number of issues related to human rights, including the importance of overcoming discrimination, hate speech, and the atmosphere of intolerance, as well as the work being done in this direction.

The Human Rights Defender spoke about a number of rights-related issues, which, among others, concern the protection of the rights of persons forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, the importance of observing rights guarantees within the framework of criminal proceedings, and the criteria for the legality of applying detention.

Anahit Manasyan made a special reference to the problematic nature, from a human rights perspective, of the processes carried out against Armenians arbitrarily deprived of their liberty in Azerbaijan.

Among other things, issues related to the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the field of protection and promotion of human rights were discussed.
