Armenian MoD Proposes Reducing Military Service to 18 Months
11 SEP 2025 05:26
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia has submitted for public discussion a draft of amendments to the "Law on Military Service and the Status of a Serviceman," which proposes to set the term of compulsory military service at 18 months.
The justification notes that the RA Government's 2021-2026 program envisages a reduction in the term of compulsory military service by increasing the volume of contract service.
The Ministry of Defense has deemed it appropriate to reduce the current 24-month compulsory military service term for the rank and file by 6 months, starting from the 2026 summer conscription, setting a term of 18 months.
According to the draft, the change will be applied starting from the 2026 summer conscription.
