For eight decades, the UN has embodied our common aspiration to prevent the scourge of war, promote sustainable development and universal well-being, as well as protect human rights and fundamental freedoms. This was stated by the RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during the G20 ministerial meeting at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. He stressed that today, conflicts and geopolitical tensions, accompanied by economic instability, continuous human rights violations, environmental degradation, and deepening inequality, endanger cooperation and the hard-won progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda.
"Developing countries, especially those in special situations, middle-income states, as well as countries in or post-conflict, bear a disproportionate burden in responding to global crises and realizing their development aspirations," Mirzoyan noted in his speech. "These challenges are further exacerbated by growing debt pressure and limited access to long-term concessional resources. Therefore, it is imperative to accelerate the reform of the international financial architecture, making it more inclusive, representative, and responsive to the needs of developing countries. In this regard, the 'Seville Compromise' provides a solid framework for action, and we call on all member states to ensure its effective implementation."
A significant part of the RA Foreign Minister's speech was dedicated to peace. "Last year, I also mentioned that within the framework of our peace agenda, Armenia presented the 'Crossroads of Peace' initiative, which is aimed at developing interconnectedness between Armenia, its neighboring countries, as well as a much wider geography. This year, with the signing of the Joint Declaration by the US, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, we have agreed on fundamental principles: the sovereignty of states, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and jurisdiction, and are now working on technical solutions to be implemented under these principles.
We are confident that the full opening of transport communications and the realization of the region's transit and trade potential will be a turning point," noted the RA Foreign Minister. He expressed confidence that the implementation of the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, including its integral part, the TRIPP connectivity program, will create new opportunities for economic growth, dialogue, and contacts between peoples, thereby contributing to broader stability and prosperity.
