On October 22, the Ambassador of Armenia to Italy, Vladimir Karapetyan, and the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Italy, Rashad Aslanov, participated in the discussion "Peace is Possible," held at the invitation of Giorgio Bartolomucci, head of the Festival della Diplomazia club, which was attended by about 150 researchers and students from various Italian universities. This is reported by the Embassy of the RA in Italy.
The moderator of the discussion was Fabio Sokolowicz, the diplomatic advisor to the Mayor of Rome.
The Ambassador of Armenia, presenting the work done by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia towards establishing peace in the region, emphasizing the importance of the agreements reached in Washington in August, highlighted the significance of the Washington documents. Referring to the efforts made by the Prime Minister of the RA, Pashinyan, towards establishing peace, the ambassador, in particular, quoted the following part of the Prime Minister's message:
"With the President of Azerbaijan, we also adopted the necessity of charting a path to a bright future, not predetermined by the conflict of the past, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. We declared that after a conflict that caused immense human suffering, conditions have finally been created for our peoples to begin good-neighborly relations, based on the principles of the inviolability of international borders and the inadmissibility of the use of force for the purpose of acquiring territories. This reality, which is not and should never be subject to revision, paves the way for closing the page of enmity between our two peoples. We resolutely reject and exclude any attempt at revenge now and in the future."
Speaking about the transit route through Armenia, the ambassador specifically mentioned the agreed principles of its operation: sovereignty, territorial integrity, jurisdiction, and equality.
The ambassadors of Armenia and Azerbaijan also emphasized the special role of US President Donald Trump in establishing peace in the region.
