The brother of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the USA, Narek Mkrtchyan, has been charged. This is reported by "Sputnik Armenia," citing a clarification received from the Investigative Committee of the RA.
"During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings initiated in connection with the incident, one person was charged under Article 335, Part 1 of the Criminal Code: illegal circulation of firearms, their main constituent parts, ammunition, and other materials, devices, objects," the Investigative Committee of the RA informed the media outlet.
According to the IC, the preventive measures applied to him are house arrest, bail, and a ban on leaving. Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 335, Part 1 (illegal circulation of firearms...), Article 393, Part 1 (illegal circulation of narcotic drugs... for the purpose of sale or their illegal sale), and Article 396, Part 1 (illegal circulation of narcotic drugs... without the purpose of sale).
Let's recall that Narek Mkrtchyan's brother, Mkrtich Mkrtchyan, was arrested on September 3 in Parakar. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on that day, patrol officers stopped a car for inspection on Yerevan Street in the Parakar community.
A passenger got out of the car and fled, throwing away items he had with him: a pistol and a powder-like substance. The driver of the car (Mkrtich Mkrtchyan) was arrested at the same moment and taken to the police department. RA Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan stated on September 4 that nothing had been found on Mkrtich Mkrtchyan.
