Armenia, UNWTO Discuss Deepening Tourism Cooperation

Within the framework of the 26th session of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan met with the newly elected Secretary-General of the Organization, Sheikha Al Nuwais. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the RA to the Kingdom of Spain and Permanent Representative of the RA to the UN World Tourism Organization, Sos Avetisyan, was also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, the prospects for the development of the tourism sector in Armenia and the possibilities of implementing joint initiatives were discussed.
Gevorg Papoyan emphasized that tourism is one of the important sectors for Armenia's economic progress, and consistent and targeted initiatives are being implemented for its development.
"We plan to focus on tourism regulations, including the activities of tourism services, crisis management, as well as regulations for medical and adventure tourism," the Minister noted.
Reference was also made to the development of tourism clusters in the RA and the continuous increase of tourist flows to Armenia.
Gevorg Papoyan also expressed hope that during Sheikha Al Nuwais's tenure, the cooperation between Armenia and the UNWTO in the tourism sector will continue to expand and strengthen.
