Armenia Toughens Penalties for Evading Military Training

On October 2, the Parliament, in its second reading and in its entirety, adopted the legislative package "On making additions and an amendment to the Law 'On Military Police'." During the discussion of the draft, the details were presented by Deputy Minister of Defense Arman Sargsyan.
"Evasion of a training assembly by a citizen called to the declared training assembly, which is manifested by the violation of the obligation to appear at the military commissariat of their registration place for the purpose of being involved in the training assembly, or by not undergoing the health examination and medical expertise established by law, or by refusing to be involved in the training assembly, or by evading involvement in the training assembly in any other way, in the absence of legal grounds for not being subject to being called to the training assembly, is punishable by a fine in the amount of 15 to 30 times [the minimum salary], or by short-term imprisonment for a maximum period of 2 months, or by imprisonment for a term of 1-3 years," noted the Deputy Minister of Defense.
