Armenia to Launch Universal Health Insurance in 2026

15 OCT 2025 08:32
The Minister of Health of the Republic of Armenia, Anahit Avanesyan, has announced the launch of the first phase of comprehensive health insurance in Armenia. On her Facebook page, the minister informed that the program will start in 2026, giving priority to elderly citizens.
"With the introduction of health insurance, during 2026, the first phase will include persons aged 65+ in the system, and their insurance premium will be covered by the state," Avanesyan wrote.
Two main conditions have been set to benefit from the program: RA citizenship and residence in the RA for more than 183 days.
The minister specifically emphasized that the program will be universal, regardless of the citizen's social, health, or employment status. Persons over the age of 65 will receive insurance regardless of whether they have a disability status, are employed, have chronic diseases, or are included in any socially vulnerable group.
