Armenia Seeks Small Nuclear Reactors with Russia's Help

"We are now working and looking for suitable small modular nuclear reactor projects for Armenia. And, of course, we are also in very active dialogue with the Russian Federation on this issue," the Armenian Prime Minister announced at the Kremlin during a meeting with the Russian President. "We are cooperating very effectively with the 'Rosatom' corporation," Pashinyan added.
The topic was, in essence, also discussed during the "Global Atomic Week" forum. At least, in the part that was covered, even the President of Belarus managed to make a mark. Despite rather cold relations with Pashinyan personally, Lukashenko offered Belarus's participation in Armenia's atomic projects, if Putin did not object.
During the meeting with Putin, Pashinyan assured that Armenia intends to continue developing the experience of cooperation with the Russian side in the field of atomic energy. "Of course, the role of nuclear energy is constantly growing, and nuclear energy is already considered a green energy option all over the world. Indeed, nuclear energy is also very important for our country," Pashinyan noted at the meeting with Putin and stressed that this cooperation exists and is developing today. "We are closely cooperating with the Russian Federation and are working towards extending the operating life of the Armenian NPP until 2036," said the Armenian Prime Minister.
