The international online platform "Numbeo" has published the 2025 Quality of Life Index, which, as always, has generated great interest in the international press. This index, based on data provided by users, allows for an understanding of all aspects of daily life, from street safety to environmental cleanliness and traffic congestion.
The 2025 Quality of Life Index published by Numbeo is based on user-entered data and shows various aspects of daily life: street safety, access to healthcare, environmental cleanliness, the ratio of prices for goods, services, and real estate compared to income, traffic congestion, and climate comfort.
The highest results are seen in Northern and Western European countries. The top five include Denmark with 205 points, Switzerland with 200, the Netherlands with 195, Finland with 190, and Iceland with 185 points. These countries share several key factors: high incomes, developed social services, an effective healthcare system, a clean environment, and a low crime rate.
The bottom five include countries facing very serious social and economic challenges. Low scores were recorded by Niger with 50 points, Chad with 55, South Sudan with 58, Somalia with 60, and the Central African Republic with 62 points. In these countries, security crises, weak healthcare systems, as well as severe economic conditions and even unsanitary conditions are prevalent, which mainly shape the minimum level of quality of life.
The South Caucasus, according to the 2025 results, is positioned below average. Armenia, with approximately 140 points, ranks 60th. Among our country's advantages are relatively high street safety and climate comfort, but there are problems in the areas of economic opportunities and housing affordability. Georgia, at almost the same level with 145 points, is in 57th place, has strong tourist appeal and a viable service sector, but has a high level of pollution.
Turkey is higher in terms of points, with about 150, and according to statistics is 50th; Turkey offers low living costs, but the country's security situation remains a concern. It is interesting that Azerbaijan is absent from the list as it does not provide data, but comparative analyses and the UN Human Development Index show that its position is approximately at a low level and is in the 20th places.
A comparison of the 2024 and 2025 data shows a general improvement in the quality of life in the South Caucasus region. Georgia has recorded the most impressive growth, improving its score by about 23% in one year. Turkey has also shown significant progress, increasing its points by more than 21%. Armenia, having one of the highest starting positions, has also strengthened its standing, ensuring about 17% growth.
