From denying Armenia's existence to establishing diplomatic relations

At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, Armenia and Pakistan signed a joint communiqué on establishing diplomatic relations just two days after a telephone discussion.

The foreign ministers of the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the UN Charter and agreed to develop mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of economy, education, culture, and tourism. Pakistan had not recognized Armenia's independence due to the Karabakh conflict.

The two countries pledged to cooperate closely on international platforms to promote peace and prosperity.
