Armenia, Iran Reaffirm Key Positions in Joint Statement

In the joint statement signed on August 19 by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the positions of the parties on key issues are once again recorded. Accordingly, the parties, in particular:
- emphasized their determination to deepen relations between the two countries and raise them to the level of a strategic partnership.
- emphasized their commitment to the UN Charter and the recognized principles and norms of international law, including respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states, the inviolability and immutability of international borders, the exclusion of the use of force or the threat of force, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and reaffirmed relations based on peaceful coexistence and good neighborliness.
- decided to increase the volume of trade turnover with the aim of bringing the volume of trade between the two countries to 3 billion dollars.
- Taking into account the common interests of the two countries in strengthening the Persian Gulf-Black Sea route, the parties stressed the need to promote comprehensive transport cooperation, develop transport infrastructure and transit routes, including by accelerating the construction of a second bridge on the Araks River on the border of the two countries, developing and modernizing new border checkpoints, as well as reducing road tolls within the framework of the agreements concluded between the two countries.
- confirmed the importance of the project of the third power transmission line from the Republic of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing the need to complete the said project quickly, including expressing support for the increase of gas and electricity exchange between the two countries within the framework of the agreement on gas and electricity exchange.
- Reaffirmed the importance of Armenia's "Crossroads of Peace" initiative and emphasized the unblocking of transport routes within the framework of the territorial integrity, national sovereignty and jurisdiction of states, on the basis of reciprocity.
