Health Body on Rabies Day: Animal Bites Require Action
28 SEP 2025 10:45
The Health and Labor Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement on the occasion of World Rabies Day:
"Rabies is a viral disease that kills tens of thousands of people worldwide every year.
A person becomes infected as a result of a bite, scratch from a sick animal or an animal in the incubation period, violating the integrity of the skin or mucous membranes, and through saliva.
There is no specific treatment for rabies, and in the presence of clinical symptoms in a person, the disease ends in death.
For the prevention of rabies, we urge:
In case of a bite by an animal (dog, cat, fox, wolf, bear, rat) and a violation of skin integrity, immediately seek medical attention to receive appropriate preventive vaccinations.
All organizations providing medical care and services to strictly adhere to the requirements established by the sanitary-epidemiological rules and norms 'Prevention of Rabies Disease among the Population' SK3.1.1-0-26-12, approved by Order No. 13-N of the RA Minister of Health of August 14, 2012," the statement reads.
