Armenia, EU Discuss Visa Liberalization and Readmission

On October 9, 2025, the 10th meeting of the RA-EU Joint Readmission Committee and the 8th meeting of the RA-EU Joint Committee on Visa Facilitation were held in Brussels.
The meeting of the RA-EU Joint Readmission Committee was co-chaired by RA Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan and Silvana Pesta, Head of the Readmission Unit of the Illegal Migration and Return Policy Division of the Directorate-General for Home Affairs of the European Commission.
The meetings were attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RA, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the RA, the European Commission, the EU Delegation to the RA, relevant structures of EU member states, as well as employees of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex).
During the meetings, the parties discussed the latest developments in EU and RA migration policies, the RA-EU visa liberalization process, and presented the progress of the implementation of the readmission agreement, statistical data, and existing problems.
Technical and substantive issues aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the implementation of the agreement were discussed.
Reference was also made to reintegration support programs in Armenia, work being carried out to improve the system of voluntary return and reintegration to Armenia, including awareness-raising events aimed at preventing illegal migration.
The European side highly appreciated the cooperation with the Armenian side, as well as the continuous efforts and progress made in the implementation of the RA-EU readmission agreement.
The parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue effective cooperation aimed at the further effective implementation of the Armenia-EU readmission and visa facilitation agreements.
On October 8, 2025, RA Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan met with Johannes Luchner, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission. During the meeting, the parties discussed the next steps in the visa liberalization process, in particular, issues related to the finalization of the RA-EU visa liberalization action plan and the provision of the document to the Armenian side.
