Armenia to Digitize Citizenship Application Process

From October 6, it will be possible to submit a preliminary application for obtaining/terminating RA citizenship.

THE PROCESSES OF OBTAINING AND TERMINATING CITIZENSHIP OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA WILL BE DIGITIZED: from January 1, 2026, the acceptance of applications and registration will be carried out exclusively through the new electronic system for citizenship affairs.

In order to avoid possible congestion in the registration system, from October 6, 2025, the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will pre-launch the new citizenship system:

At a certain stage of the administration, applicants will be required to approach the office of the Migration and Citizenship Service once for physical identification and verification of original documents.

Starting from October 6, applicants will have the opportunity to:

create, edit, and submit a preliminary application for obtaining or terminating RA citizenship,

book a visit day to the Migration and Citizenship Service, no earlier than January 22, 2026.

Citizens of the Republic of Armenia will register in the new system exclusively through the "YesEm" national identification platform, for which an identification card and mID electronic digital signature are required.

Foreign citizens, persons with refugee status, and stateless persons will register at their discretion, with strict identification or email verification, by attaching a photocopy of their travel document.

After submitting the preliminary application, it is necessary to pay the state fee no later than 10 days before the selected visit day. If the payment is not made, the booked day will be canceled.

On the day of the visit, applicants present the original documents specified in the application and, depending on the type of application, take the Armenian language and RA Constitution test.
