Armenia Chairs Key Committee at OPCW Conference

The Republic of Armenia officially assumed the presidency of the Committee of the Whole of the 30th Conference of the States Parties to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on November 24. According to "Armenpress," the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the Netherlands reports this. In connection with assuming the presidency, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the OPCW, Ambassador Viktor Biyagov, noted:

"It is a great honor for Armenia to assume this responsible position. Our presidency will reflect Armenia's unconditional commitment to the primary goals of the Chemical Weapons Convention. Armenia is ready to contribute its experience in bridging differences and finding constructive solutions."

The Committee of the Whole is the most important body of the Conference of the States Parties to the OPCW, composed of all OPCW member states, where key substantive issues are discussed that could not be agreed upon among the member states due to their sensitivity.

The main function of the committee is to consider proposals submitted by all member states regarding the issues addressed to it and to hold negotiations to form a consensus. As the chair, Armenia is entrusted with the function of coordinating these discussions and negotiations, working with all parties involved. The chair plays a crucial role in conducting informal consultations and guiding negotiations.
