Armenia Approves Most CIS Documents, Chief Says

Despite the recent political rhetoric and the decrease in Armenia's physical presence at high-level events within the CIS, Yerevan continues its participation in the organization's work. This is evidenced by the statement of the CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev, according to which Armenia has approved the majority of the documents adopted at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS held in Minsk.
The meeting brought together representatives of the nine member states of the organization. Armenia participated in the event at the level of Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, who joined the session's work via video link. The Prime Minister of Armenia did not participate in the meeting, citing his presence in New York and then in Strasbourg. This was despite an earlier announcement that Pashinyan would not be traveling to Minsk.
Participation in this format and, especially, the approval of most of the documents, indicate that although Armenia is reviewing its relations with the structure, it nevertheless continues to remain involved in the processes discussed within the CIS framework.
In his turn, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev, commenting on the degree of Armenia's involvement, stressed that the organization sees no intention from any member state to cease its activities in the CIS. "The organization has no doubt that any of the states wants to stop its activities in the CIS," Lebedev stated.
This statement can be seen as an attempt by the central bodies of the CIS to dispel concerns about the organization's viability and to emphasize that all member countries, including Armenia, continue to remain part of the structure.
The next meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS will be held in Ashgabat in the first half of 2026, announced the Secretary General of the structure, Sergey Lebedev.
