The Iraqi Prime Minister's advisor on transport issues, Nasser al-Asadi, has stated that Oman and Armenia have submitted official applications to join the "Development Road" economic project. This is reported by Iraqi sources. According to Nasser al-Asadi, the project enjoys wide international interest. Al-Asadi noted that the main partners of the project are Iraq's neighboring countries, but membership of states outside the region is also expected. He stressed that Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey have already expressed their support for this initiative.
"The Sultanate of Oman has officially submitted an application to join, and we hope that Saudi Arabia and other countries will follow its example," the advisor said.
He also added that the Armenian ambassador to Iraq has expressed a great desire for his country to become part of the project by creating a free zone for Armenian industry and expanding trade with Iraq and the region.
According to al-Asadi, discussions on the project have also been held with representatives of Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, and the European Union. The EU ambassador confirmed that all countries of the union are interested in the "Development Road."
"This project is no longer purely Iraqi; it has become an international one, through which we aim to achieve broad economic development for the benefit of Iraq and the entire region," the official concluded.
