Anti-Arab Backlash in Azerbaijan After TikTok Video Incident

20 AUG 2025 09:48
After the incident of three Arab citizens filming a video for TikTok in the "Martyrs' Alley," a real campaign against Arabs has begun in the Azerbaijani segment of social media.
The video, in the opinion of many observers, did not directly insult the memory of those who died in the war with Armenia, but it caused a strong reaction. It is reported that during the arrest, one of the detainees was subjected to humiliation: his face was spat on, and this is visible in the video. The court has sentenced all three to three months' imprisonment.
Against the backdrop of the scandal, footage has begun to appear on the network in which other Arab citizens "voluntarily" visit to honor the memory of the fallen.
Sources close to the official ones express concern that as a result of this incident, Azerbaijan may acquire a reputation among Arabs as a country with manifestations of racism, as calls are being made to lynch almost all representatives of the Arab communities because of one TikTok video.
