US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Israel this week, where he will meet with the country's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This was announced by the official representative of the Israeli government, Shosh Bedrosian, at a briefing. "Secretary of State Marco Rubio is returning to Israel this week. He will arrive on Thursday, and the meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled for Friday," Bedrosian said.
Earlier, the Times of Israel had written about Rubio's visit, citing an American source. According to the publication, the main focus of the visit will be on supporting the successful implementation of Washington's plan to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Rubio's visit is a continuation of a series of visits by high-ranking US officials. On Tuesday, US Vice President J. D. Vance arrived in Israel, and days before, the American envoy for the settlement of the Gaza conflict, Steve Witkoff, and the US President's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, had visited.
These visits are taking place against the backdrop of efforts to maintain the ceasefire regime that came into force in the Gaza Strip on October 10 and to move on to discussing the second phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan.
