Andreasyan: We will not withdraw the lawsuits against Azerbaijan

Armenia is not considering and has no decision to withdraw the lawsuits filed against Azerbaijan in international judicial bodies. At the same time, extensive legal work has been carried out to protect the rights of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku, and now we must await the results of the judicial and diplomatic processes. Karen Andreasyan, the Representative of the RA on International Legal Matters, stated this in a conversation with journalists at the National Assembly.
Referring to the issue of torture of Armenian prisoners held in Baku, Andreasyan noted that high-quality work had been done by Armenia before he took office.
"Armenia... has done a huge amount of work, has submitted all the complaints and applications to international bodies, I have not even had anything to add... we just have to wait for the results of other processes, for example, the decisions of international judicial bodies," he said. Andreasyan added that one must also wait for the developments in the peace process and the results of diplomatic work, emphasizing that his role is to "ensure that our international disputes, through which we have raised the painful issue of the prisoners... ultimately receive a correct judicial response."
During the conversation, Karen Andreasyan also categorically denied the rumors that Armenia is preparing to withdraw its lawsuits against Azerbaijan.
"Neither during my predecessor's time, nor during my time, has any lawsuit been withdrawn, and there is no such discussion. If something like that happens, you will definitely be informed," he stated.
In response to the observation that there is allegedly a clause in the draft peace agreement initialed in Washington about renouncing the lawsuits, Andreasyan replied: "I have studied the entire package. Mr. Yeghishe Kirakosyan has not received, and our office has not received, any proposal to renounce any lawsuit."
He stressed that such an issue can only come onto the agenda after any agreement is ratified by the RA authorities, of which the public will be the first to know. He reaffirmed that Armenia continues to consistently protect its interests on international platforms.
