Aliyev accuses Russia of launching a campaign against Azerbaijan

The downing of an Azerbaijani civilian aircraft by Russian forces and the reaction of Russian officials to the incident are causing huge disappointment and dissatisfaction in Azerbaijan. The President of Azerbaijan said this in an interview with "Al-Arabiya".

"Before we could even digest that, Russia started a new campaign against Azerbaijan. These baseless attacks on Azerbaijanis in Russia began. Two people were tortured and killed. It was an unprecedented act against our people. We are not responsible for the deterioration of relations," Aliyev emphasized.

"Is there no fear that Moscow will also start creating problems for Baku in the Caucasus?" the journalist asked.

"They have a military base in Armenia with several thousand servicemen. At the same time, Armenia's borders with Iran and Turkey are guarded by Russian border guards. There are no Russian soldiers on the territory of Azerbaijan. I don't know what might happen in Armenia. But I don't want to think about such a negative outcome," Aliyev replied.
