Alen Simonyan: Peace with Azerbaijan Has Been Established

29 OCT 2025 12:41
The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, made a series of statements addressing the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, Armenia's foreign policy vector, and regional infrastructure projects.
Referring to the normalization of relations with Baku, Simonyan noted that the peace process has reached a certain logical stage. "The adoption of the declaration and the pre-signing of the peace agreement testify that peace is already established," he stated. The NA President, however, emphasized that political agreements do not yet solve all problems. He singled out two main humanitarian challenges. "The issue of persons held in Azerbaijan, prisoners of war, continues to be a serious problem that must be resolved," Simonyan noted. In addition, he stressed the importance of clarifying the fate of the missing, calling it an "important humanitarian priority."
Speaking about the prospects for regional cooperation, the NA President presented Armenia's "Crossroads of Peace" project as a vision for ensuring uninterrupted communication. He noted that the TRIPP project stems from this very logic. The program, according to him, envisages the construction of not only railways but also highways, pipelines, power transmission lines, and communication cables between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and neighboring countries.
In his speech, Alen Simonyan also touched upon Armenia's foreign policy, welcoming the public's active stance on European integration. "We are glad to see our society's active position on European integration," he declared. Simonyan stressed that the US and the EU have made a significant contribution to the development of democracy in Armenia, adding that the country has confidently chosen the democratic path and intends to follow it steadfastly.
