Air Pollution a Problem Beyond Just Yerevan

The Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring has published data on the dust content in the atmospheric air in a number of cities in Armenia for the period from September 28 to October 4. The results of the study are alarming, as several large settlements have recorded an excess of the maximum permissible concentration.
According to the data presented by the center, the highest indicators of air pollution were recorded in the city of Vanadzor. In particular, in the "area adjacent to Vardanants Street," the dust content exceeded the norm on three days at once: September 28, 30, and October 2. The situation was not good in other parts of the city either: on September 28, exceedances were recorded in both the "area adjacent to Tsaturyan Street" and the "area adjacent to Heratsi Street."
Air quality problems were also recorded in the city of Hrazdan, where the dust content exceeded the established norm on September 30 and October 1. The same problem was recorded in Ararat on September 29 and 30.
In contrast to these cities, the dust content in the atmospheric air in Gyumri remained within the maximum permissible concentration, not exceeding it during the specified period.
This data provides a well-founded refutation of the stereotype that only the capital city of Yerevan has an air pollution problem in the territory of the Republic of Armenia and confirms the assertion that environmental problems have a much wider geography.
