Afghanistan Earthquake Death Toll Surpasses 800

About 500 people have been killed and more than 1,000 injured as a result of an earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, according to local and international media.

The death toll is not yet final. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

Citing data from the US Geological Survey (USGS), France-Presse notes that the epicenter was 27 kilometers from Jalalabad, with a focal depth of eight kilometers.

According to the agency, the earthquake was felt from Kabul to Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.
