On September 3, Afghanistan airlifted rescuers to save people trapped under rubble in the country's eastern mountainous regions.
Rescue efforts have been intensified to deliver food, shelter, and medical supplies.
The death toll from the earthquake has already surpassed 1,400. The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 6, which was one of the deadliest in Afghanistan in recent years, caused great destruction in the provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar.
The second earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.5, occurred on the evening of September 2, causing panic and hindering rescue efforts as rocks slid from the mountains and blocked roads to remote villages.
The authorities have set up a camp to coordinate supplies and emergency aid, and two centers are operating to oversee the transport of the injured, the burial of the dead, and the rescue of those still under the rubble.
The death toll on September 3, in the middle of the day, stands at 1,411 dead, 3,124 injured, and more than 5,400 destroyed homes, the Taliban administration reported.
The United Nations has warned that the death toll could rise as people are still under the rubble.
