Estonia Calls UN Security Council Meeting Over Airspace

22 SEP 2025 12:08
An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council has been convened on September 22 at Estonia's request. The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this.
On September 19, the General Staff of the republic's defense forces announced that three Russian fighters had violated Estonia's airspace near Vaindloo island. The Russian Ministry of Defense responded that on Friday, three Russian MiG-31 fighters conducted a planned flight from Karelia to the Kaliningrad region. The flight was carried out in accordance with international regulations, and Estonian airspace was not violated.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul expressed hope that Estonia will receive the support of the majority of the UN Security Council members. However, any decision by the UN's highest body can be blocked by Russia with its veto power.
